Avengers fans are expected to flock to local comic book stores this Saturday.

The annual Free Comic Book Day happens this Saturday, May 4. Much like Record Store Day is to music fans, the celebration's goal is to generate excitement for comic book fans and give the uninitiated a chance to discover the hobby for the first time.

This popularity of this year's blockbuster hit Avengers: Endgame is expected to bring out even more superhero fans to the annual event.  Every customer who stops into a participating comic store will get free comics, many of which are only available on this special day.

The most sought after issue will most likely be FCBD Avengers #1. The comic includes two stories. One sets the stage for the original Avengers characters just in time for Endgame, and the other story called The Savage Avengers is being promoted as "one of the most unique, dynamic, and deadly versions of the Avengers ever."

The best part is that this and all of the other comics are free. There will be limits on comics, but most stores will let you take as many as you want as long as you make a charitable donation.

Participating stores include Kirwin's in Poughkeepsie and Catskill, Alterniverse in Hyde Park, October Country Comics in New Paltz, The Underground in Beacon, Main Street Comics in Middletown, Haven For Heroes in Port Jervis, Pop's Universe in Germantown and Fairview Books in Hudson.

You can call ahead to find out opening times and special deals at each location or visit the Free Comic Book Day website for more details and more locations.
