Peek Inside Mohonk Mountain House’s Lavish $3,000 Per Night Suite
The most expensive room at the historic Mohonk Mountain House resort is something most of us will never see in person.
Mohonk Mountain House may be right in our backyard, but might as well be a half a world away for most residents of the Hudson Valley. The luxurious resort caters mostly to the rich and famous who have been flocking to this New Paltz retreat for 150 years. Celebrating their sesquicentennial all year long, the historic retreat has special events and activities planned for those lucky enough to be able to visit.
Founded by the Smiley Family in 1869, the Victorian castle resort is now a National Historic Landmark. Surrounded by 40,000 acres of forest, Mohonk Mountain House pampers their guests with everything from farm-to-table cuisine to an award-winning spa.
Anyone who's ever dreamed of visiting this historic inn probably already knows that it's a bit pricy. Mohonk Mountain House's smallest room, a "cozy" space with a double bed and no balcony, runs over $700 per night. Although the rate includes three meals, afternoon tea and most activities and classes offered at the resort, the price is still a bit over budget for most of the Hudson Valley's cost-conscious travelers.
For those who can really afford to indulge, there's nothing that compares to Mohonk's Victorian Mountain View Suite. The luxurious tower suite has two levels that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding Catskill mountains.
The lower level contains a living room with queen sleeper sofa, full bathroom and a balcony complete with the inn's iconic wooden rocking chairs. There's even a real, wood-burning fireplace in the room for those chilly fall evenings in the mountains.
The upstairs level of the suite is truly breathtaking. Accessed by a curved staircase the bedroom sports huge windows that overlooking the Catskill Mountains. An inviting king sized bed and cozy furniture come together to create the perfect place to relax after a long day of hiking.
Adjacent to the bedroom is an enormous master bathroom that's bigger than most people's apartments. Complete with a glass shower, soaking tub and double vanity the room is a retreat all to itself.
One night of luxury living in the Victorian Mountain View Suite will set you back $3,010. To put the price in perspective, for the same amount of money you can stay for 38-days at the Econo Lodge on Main Street in New Paltz. However, I'm pretty sure they don't offer afternoon tea.
