Residents in one Dutchess County town have been on high alert after a post went viral about a robbery at a grocery store.

In the Facebook group "Hyde Park, NY: Then and Now" poster Gae Marie Cannon shared her experience at the Stop and Shop grocery store in Hyde Park. In the post, Cannon alleges that "an older biracial couple robbing customers at the HP Stop & Shop. They sometimes work in tandem, in the parking lot and in the store."

Cannon continued saying:

Most commonly they will state they need a ride to a gas station to pick up their car, use intimidation to force the victim to take them to multiple locations, and (again using aggressiveness and intimidation) force the victim to give them money.

The Hyde Park Police Department was made aware of the couple and made a statement to their Facebook page on Monday, November 18th. The statement says :

We have had multiple reports similar in nature. The couple has been identified. Our best advice is to never give anyone a ride that you don’t know. Never let strangers into your vehicle for any reason whatsoever. If you are a victim of a crime relating to this couple please call our main line at 845-229-9340.

They also add:

We are working with other agencies who received similar complaints in the surrounding towns. As we all know there are many scams going around and you should always be aware of your surroundings.
