A "horrendous" accident has closed down Route 17, backing up traffic through Rockland County. The accident occurred this morning just over the New Jersey border. Traffic is completely stopped on the southbound side of Route 17.
According to Hudson Valley traffic reporter, Nancy Reamy, the bottle up starts at Airmont Avenue in Rockland and continues all the way down through Ramsey in Northern Bergen County.
Trucks are being rerouted, causing even more traffic issues on surrounding roads.
The road is expected to be closed for a while until the accident has been cleared.
