Changes to the Hudson Valley’s World Record Holiday Light Display
In just a few days the ERDAJT light display in LaGrange will flip the switch on some new additions to their world record holiday show.
Every year, Tim Gay and his family open their front yard to visitors from the Hudson Valley and beyond. Visitors to the Gays' home in LaGrange are invited to drive through the world's largest residential display of lights. The record was certified by the Guinness Book in 2014 when Tim flipped the switch to turn on 601,736 lights. Since then, the Gay family has added even more to their display. In 2018 the count was up to 608,000 lights powered by over 40 miles of extension cords.
But this year, it's become even bigger.
Since 2012 Tim has wanted to add a spiral of lights to the display. But because of the complex engineering that would need to be done to make this happen, he settled on concentric circles that blink on and off to create a bullseye effect. This year, Tim's son Dan was able to finally make the spiral a reality. With the help of a friend, Dan toiled away for months, designing a double spiral of LED lights that can be programmed to any color.
In addition to the spiral, this year's ERDAJT display will feature 24 more sets of meteor lights, which have become a fan favorite. These new features have added over 30,000 additional lights to the display, bringing it up to 640,000. That's almost 40,000 more than the current record. Besides erecting these additional lights, Tim has also had to re-program hundreds of songs to include the new features in his show, which changes each and every time you drive through it.
You can get your first peek at the new lights on Friday, November 29 at 4:45pm. However, you may want to mark your calendars for the December 13 and 14. That's when The Boris & Robyn Show on 101.5 WPDH will be at the display collecting donations for The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie. You may even geta a peek of your favorite morning personalities handing out candy canes to all of the visitors. For more information on visiting this spectacular display, you can visit the ERDAJT website.
Listen to the Boris & Robyn Show weekday mornings from 6AM to 10AM on 101.5 WPDH through your WPDH mobile app. Connect with WPDH on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
