A Poughkeepsie man is headed to Flint, Michigan and needs your assistance in helping the residents out.

Tom Zurhellen is a Marist professor who is putting his best foot forward for his fellow veterans. The VFW commander has spent the past two months walking across America to raise awareness for veteran suicide and homelessness. Since starting his journey in April, Zurhellen has walked 22 miles a day to raise awareness of the statistic that 22 veterans take their lives every day in America.

His journey will be taking him through one of the hardest-hit areas in our country, Flint, Michigan. Already suffering from economic issues, Flint was struck with a water crisis that is still affecting residents. While visiting the city, Zurhellen is planning on handing out restaurant gift cards to those who are still struggling to get safe drinking water.

Zurhellen is working with the local VFW commander in Flint to get the cards to families that need them. Their goal is to collect 100 cards to hand out when Zurhellen walks through the city at the end of the month.

If you'd like to help out, you can send a restaurant gift card to Zurhellen's next mail drop on his walk across America. Cards for chains that are in the Flint area like McDonalds, Burger King and Subway are preferred.

You can mail your gift card donations to:

Tommy Zurhellen
USPS
General Delivery
319 N Washington St
Owosso, MI 48867

The deadline for getting the cards in the mail so they reach Tom in time is July 23.
