Another local department store has filed a notice that they will be closing at the end of the year.

In 2016 Kmart closed their doors on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie. Their South Hills Mall location was shuttered when 78 Sears and Kmart stores announced that they would be closing across the country. In 2017 the Kmart in Vails Gate also closed, leaving just one location left on Dutchess Turnpike in Poughkeepsie.

Well, now a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification has been made, announcing that the last Kmart in the Hudson Valley will finally be closing their doors.  According to the WARN notice, the Kmart on Dutchess Turnpike in Poughkeepsie will officially close just two days before Christmas.

The notice says the Kmart will close down on December 23, putting 71 people out of work. The reason given for the closing is "economic." That's no surprise, considering that Kmart, as well as their parent company, Sears, have been struggling to stay afloat for some time.

Now that all of our Kmart locations have disappeared, the question remains; just how long do the Hudson Valley's remaining Sears locations have before they succumb to the same fate?
