Spectacular NYC Fire Boat Headed Up Hudson River This Saturday
If you're headed near the Hudson River this weekend, you'll want to keep your eyes open for a famous boat from New York City.
On Saturday the John J. Harvey will be in the Hudson Valley for a special event honoring first responders. Originally launched in 1931, the boat served New York City residents until being retired in 1994. During the events of September 11, 2001 the historic NYFD boat was brought out of retirement to help fight fires and evacuate people from lower Manhattan.
Now decorated in dazzling red camouflage, the John J. Harvey will be making a special appearance, traveling up the Hudson River to attend Heroes' Day in Kingston from Noon to 5pm. Free deck tours will be available throughout the day, giving Hudson Valley residents a chance to get up close and personal with this famous boat. The event also includes tours of the United States Coast Guard Buoy Tender and demonstrations by police K9s and local fire departments.
Those who will be at Saturday's Hudson River Craft Beer Festival on the Beacon riverfront may even get a glimpse of the John J. Harvey as it makes its way between New York City and Kingston.
