Rhinebeck Heading to Court to Force Diner Demolition?
Across the street from the famous Dutchess County Fair Grounds lies a dormant diner. In 2014, a fire burned down the building making it unusable and beyond repair. The fire was allegedly caused by a fryer in the diner's kitchen.
It's an unfortunate incident since that location has served Northern Dutchess for many years as Rolling Rock, Double-O Grill and most recently The Eveready Diner. However, the condition of the building is becoming more than just an eyesore on an otherwise scenic section of Route 9.
According to an article on dailyfreeman.com, the Town of Rhinebeck is considering obtaining a court order forcing the owners of the property to tear the building completely down. This is to push the process along for the current owners to either tear it down or rebuild it.
There is evidence of animal habitat activity on site which could lead to bigger dangers and nuisances such as a vermin or rodent infestations.
