Poughkeepsie Man Driving Stolen Vehicle Was Intoxicated, Police Say
An intoxicated man with a suspended license was found to be in possession of a stolen vehicle, as well as other items that had been reported stolen.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department reports the arrest of Carlton R. Woods, following a traffic stop at 2605 South Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
On January 11, at approximately 5:50 am, a Town of Poughkeepsie Police Officer observed a vehicle matching the description of a stolen vehicle that had been reported in the City of Poughkeepsie.
The vehicle was being operated by Woods, and a police investigation found that the vehicle was in fact, stolen. Woods was found to be intoxicated and driving with a suspended driver’s license.
Woods was also found to be in possession of additional stolen property which was reported earlier in the morning in the City of Poughkeepsie. Woods was then taken into custody. While in custody, Woods did cause damage to the interior of a patrol vehicle.
Woods was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property fourth-degree, Criminal Mischief third-degree, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation first-degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property fifth-degree and Driving While Intoxicated.
The investigation also determined that Woods is on parole. The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision was contacted and they issued a warrant for his arrest.
He was remanded to Dutchess County Jail on no bail.
