Poughkeepsie Homeowner Survives Lightning Strike
One Hudson Valley resident won't soon forget Saturday's storm.
Severe weather quickly descended upon our area on Saturday as a line of heavy thunderstorms made their way across the Mid Hudson Valley. In Poughkeepsie, Jo Morgan just feels lucky to have survived it.
Morgan says she was inside her home across from Krieger School in Poughkeepsie when the storm was approaching. After opening the door to take a look at the rain, Morgan says her hair started to stand on its end.
Before she could process what was happening, a huge bolt of lightning struck right outside her home.
It was like something out of a Sci-fi movie... the blinding white light filled outside and my hall combined with the loudest noise I've ever heard.
Morgan says her ears rang for at least an hour after the lightning bolt landed on the sidewalk in front of the school.
After the storm ended, Morgan sent her son across the street to see if there was any damage. What he found were burn marks all over the sidewalk where the lightning skipped down the street, just feet from where Morgan was standing.
While no one knows where or when lightning will strike, Pougkeepsie residents may want to steer clear from Jo Morgan's street. The homeowner says this is the second time lightning has struck that location in the past five years.
