Lawmaker Wants to Ban People Under 21 From Having Cellphones
You think they like to ban things in the state of New York. If a lawmaker in one nearby state has his way, no one under the age of 21 would be allowed to own a cellphone. Sound harsh?
However, even this state senator doesn't expect the bill to actually pass. He seems to be out to make a point. Vermont Senator John Rodgers introduced S.212 which would make it so anyone under 21 possessing or using a cell phone could face up to a year in prison and or a fine up to $1,000. Sounds preposterous.
Rodgers told the Times Argus that he knows it won't pass. The bill states:
In light of the dangerous and life-threatening consequences of cellphone use by young people, it is clear that persons under 21 years of age are not developmentally mature enough to safely possess them...
Rodgers actually is a supporter of the Second Amendment, and is concerned his state recently raised the age to own firearms to 21. This seems to be his answer to that.
Would this ever actually work though? Probably not.
