
New Grocery Store to Replace Rite Aid in Ulster County
Plans have been submitted to transform a former Rite Aid location into a new full-service supermarket in Kingston, NY.
Rite Aid Closes in the Hudson Valley, NY
Over the last few years, we have watched all of the Hudson Valley Rite Aid locations close after the company announced it was going out of business due to crippling debt. The closures have left numerous vacant buildings all across the Hudson Valley, with many residents hoping that a new business would fill each location.
Unfortunately, most locations remain vacant, but that could change soon at the former Rite Aid location in Kingston, NY.
New Plans for Rite Aid Location in Kingston, NY
New plans have been submitted to the City of Kingston's Planning Board that bring a full-service CTown supermarket to the former Rite Aid location at 485 Broadway, in Kingston, NY.
The Rite Aid, which closed last summer after the drugstore chain declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy, would need to add significant square footage to the current 11,421-square-foot building to be able to house the grocery store.

The plans submitted by the project's architect, Jay Diesing, would require a 6,667-square-foot addition to the building and an enclosed 236-square-foot area in front of the building to allow for the storage of shopping carts, according to the Daily Freeman.

The plans also stated that if the grocery store secures all the necessary approvals from the city, it should take approximately four to six months to complete construction. When the store opens its expected to employ approximately 25 full-time and 15 part-time employees.
If approved, the new supermarket would be owned by Gilbarto Hernández and Diego Sánchez, who already operate supermarkets in Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, and Middletown, NY.
CTown Supermarkets is a chain of independently owned and operated supermarkets. Currently the are approximately 200 stores in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania.
