A Hudson Valley man on his way to see his 1-year-old child was killed while trying to help a crash victim.

Last Monday around 1 a.m., Jaquan Cesar, 28, of Beacon was driving on the Cross Bronx Expressway in the Bronx when he noticed a Mercedes Benz rear-end another car, police told the New York Post.

When Cesar got out of his car to help the other driver another car hit the back of the Mercedes, which hit Cesar and sent him over the median. He was then hit by another car and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Mercedes suffered a minor injury while the driver of the car that rear-ended the Mercedes was critically injured, according to the New York Post.

Cesar was on his way to see his 1-year-old son, the New York Post reports. He worked in Flushing as a dialysis technician.

“It’s hard to process that he died the way he did, but he died helping someone and that’s what he did every day when he went to work,” Maggie Jean-Francois who raised Cesar told the New York Post.

Cesar attended Poughkeepsie High School and was a star on the Poughkeepsie High School football team, according to the Hudson Valley Sports Report.

The incident is being investigated by NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad.
