Quarterback Geno Smith is staying in New York. Thing is, it's with the other team.

Smith signed a one year $2 million dollar contract with the Giants Monday. Smith will compete with Josh Johnson as Eli Manning's back up next season.

Smith says he's very happy to be a Giant, and seems especially happy to follow in the footsteps of Manning.

I want to carry my notepad around and whatever I see Eli doing, whether it’s in the classroom, on the field or off the field, I want to write it down. Because he’s a guy you can model yourself after.

While Smith says he realizes he probably won't get a lot of playing time, he is hoping to repair a broken image.

Controversy followed Smith while he played for the Jets. He's been kicked off planes, verbally attacked fans, and even had his jaw broken by a teammate over a debt. He also missed most of 2016 after tearing his ACL in October.

Geno doesn't seem to be concerned .

I think it will work out tremendously for me.

Time will tell. Best of luck, Geno.
