Breaking: Brand New Brewery to Open on Route 9 in Wappingers
Another brewery is coming to Dutchess County. This one will be opening right on Route 9.
A spacious, 3,100-square-foot Revolutionary War-themed brewery is currently being built right under our noses. You probably haven't even noticed it yet, but once it's open the brewery will be the latest addition to several new businesses that have recently popped up near the Village of Wappingers Falls.
Cousins Revolution Ale Works is run by Aaron Browne and his cousin, Chris Dorn. The duo plan to build out the entire new brewery themselves behind the Dutchess Shopping Plaza near Dunkin' Donuts on Route 9. Space around back at the old DV8 bar location is currently under construction with crews already doing work on the outside entrance. A 20-foot bar topped with natural wood will be the centerpiece of the newly remodeled space. Rough cut local wood decor will add to the theme of the brewery. An artist rendering shows just how the current building is expected to be transformed.
Inside, the brewery will follow a simple open floor plan. Browne says that Cousins won't be utilizing a traditional brew house. Instead they will be installing a brand new system that has never even been seen in New York. For that reason they've opted to keep the entire brewery exposed so everyone can check out their unique brewing process.
A band area will be located near the main loading doors, allowing local musicians to perform on certain nights. Browne tells us that the goal is to provide live music along with great ales made from 100% New York State ingredients. As time goes by they hope to eventually source all of their ingredients from right here in the Hudson Valley.
To start, the brewers will have their IPAs and pale ales on tap. In addition, they plan to offer multiple stouts on draught year round. Other local farm brewery ales and ciders will complete the tap list. Aside from some finger foods, menu items won't be prepared on site. Patrons will be welcome to bring their own food or order it from nearby restaurants. Food trucks or outside catering may also be brought in for special events.
Browne says he wants the space to be "a friendly community fun place to grab a pint and relax, as well as provide some entertainment with new ideas and new brews." He says he's excited to be the first to have this new brewery system up and running right here in the Hudson Valley.
North River Hops and Brewing, which opened in 2014, is located just diagonally across Route 9 behind Smoothie King. The brewery has been hugely successful and rumors have been circulating that they've outgrown their current space and may be looking to move. There's been no official word on any potential changes.
Cousins Revolution Ale Works is scheduled to open in early 2018. When they open their doors, the brewery will join a growing list of watering holes in the Village of Wappingers including the DiVine Wine Bar, County Fare, The Vinyl Room and "The Pub" which is currently under construction near Hannoush Jewelers on Route 9.
