30-Year Hudson Valley Business Closes, Building to Become Brewery

After three decades a local business is closing up shop to make room for a new brewery.

It was bittersweet on May 5 when Bill and Andrea Jenack welcomed customers to their very last sale. The 30-year-old auction house has become legendary, liquidating items from estate sales and selling antiques to the highest bidder. In 2000, the couple built a 12,500-square-foot auction house in Chester, NY.

In an interview with Antiques and the Arts, the Jenacks reminisced about some of their biggest sales, including a Greek head carved out of marble that was owned by the daughter of Anthony Quinn. That piece sold for $529,000. Slamming down the gavel for the last time this month, Andrea Janack addressed the bidders in attendance with gratitude for the past three decades of business, "We’re fortunate to have been in an industry we loved, and we’re leaving on our own terms… It’s been a wonderful ride."

On May 15 the building was officially turned over to its new owners who will be turning the space into a brewery. Tin Barn Brewing is expected to open up this Fall. the "family and dog-friendly" brewery plans on serving beer and food made with local, farm fresh ingredients.
