Terrifying Video of Distracted Driver on Taconic State Parkway

State authorities are sharing some gruesome video of a recent crash on the Taconic State Parkway, but it's for a very good reason.

The New York State Department of Transportation released footage taken from the back of one of their HELP trucks that demonstrates just how dangerous it can be to take your eyes off the road for even a second.

The video shows a car approaching the DOT vehicle from behind. Because the driver is distracted he continues to travel in the right-hand lane, unaware that he's about to crash right into the HELP truck. Without even braking, the car smashes into the truck and is sent flying over the barrier in the middle of the parkway.

The state is really cracking down on distracted driving. New electronic messages were spotted on the New York State Thruway this week reminding drivers to put down their phones and devices and focus on the road.
