SNL Rips Hudson Valley in Season Premiere Sketch
The president wasn't the only one targeted by this weekend's Saturday Night Live season premiere.
While Alec Baldwin's weekly impersonation of Donald Trump makes most of the headlines, SNL is, and always has been, an equal opportunity offender. Saturday night's season premiere had its fair share of jokes aimed at the president, but also skewered the lineup of Democratic candidates, taking some particularly nasty shots at Joe Biden.
However, one target we weren't expecting from SNL was the Hudson Valley. During one of the night's funniest sketches, Aidy Bryant and Kate McKinnon played the Chickham sisters, owners of a quirky apple orchard. During the four-and-a-half-minute sketch, the long-running variety show had quite a bit of fun at our expense.
While the Hudson Valley wasn't called out by name, it was clear that the Chickham's Apple Farm skit was directly aimed at our area. The extended commercial for a local apple orchard not only made fun of the whole concept of apple picking (for just $45 you can bring home $10 worth of apples) but also aimed its crosshairs at the residents of the Hudson Valley (located in the part of New York State that has confederate flags.)
Woody Harrelson, the show's guest host, played the orchard's farmhand, Hank; a "troubled man who came with the land" who is paid in dentistry.
While most of the Hudson Valley has a pretty good sense of humor, the sketch is sure to ruffle feathers with some of our more sensitive residents. You know, the ones who like to fly those confederate flags and complain about everything on Facebook.
Let us know what you thought about the Chickham Apple Farm sketch. Did you find it funny or were you upset that the Hudson Valley was portrayed the way it was? You can share your thoughts about the sketch on our Facebook page.
