Like it or not, it's already the holiday season. I am hearing Christmas music in stores, there are holiday decorations for sale, and more commercials for new toys than I can keep track of. But one thing that I am really excited about is the Celebration of Lights in Poughkeepsie.

As a resident of the City of Poughkeepsie, this has always been one of my favorite days. The city seems to come alive with holiday spirit. This year, the City of Poughkeepsie, in conjunction with the Bardavon, and many others will present the 24th annual Poughkeepsie City Celebration of Lights Parade and Fireworks on Friday, December 1 at 6:30 pm.

It all starts with the parade. The route is Main Street to first tree lighting at Barney Building Lot, past arterial down Main Street right onto North Clover Street to Dongan Square Park, across from Noah’s Ark and Café Aurora for a second tree lighting. At 7:15 pm there will be a fireworks display.

The city is asking everyone to please bring non-perishable food to support Food Stock 10! Donations will benefit the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley and can be dropped off at the Food Tent next to the Christmas Tree. For all the events and more information, visit the Celebration of Lights facebook page.
