Police: Man Killed in Poughkeepsie Apartment Shooting Identified
The man who was shot and killed after a failed robbery attempt in the City of Poughkeepsie has been identified.
On August 17, at 10:04 p.m. City of Poughkeepsie 911 received a call from the tenant of 107 North Bridge Street apartment 1 reporting that two men armed with handguns attempted to rob him in his apartment.
The caller reported he began fighting with the men, was able to get the gun away from one and shoot him. The second man then fled on foot. The man shot was pronounced dead at the scene.
This was not a random act. It’s believed the intended victim was targeted because he was known to sell marijuana.
The deceased man was identified as Shamaal J. Irving, a 23-year-old City of Poughkeepsie resident.
An autopsy was conducted on Irving yesterday by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office; the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the neck
and head.
Irving was armed with a handgun when he was shot. The second man involved in the robbery is believed to have been shot also. He has not been identified yet.
At this point in the investigation it is believed after fleeing the apartment, it is possible he fled the area in an unknown vehicle. He has not sought treatment at any of the local hospitals.
He is described as being a black male, less than 6 feet tall, stocky build. It is unknown where he was hit if hit at all.
