Police: Man Breaks Into Apartment, Steals Bike As He Fled

A Dutchess County man was arrested after breaking into an apartment and then stealing a bike while he fled.

On June, 14, 2018, the Town of Poughkeepsie Police were dispatched for a report of a burglary in progress at Mountain Brook Apartments on Innis Avenue in Poughkeepsie.

Rodarius Smith, 30, of Poughkeepsie gained access through an open window of an occupied first-level apartment. The resident contacted 911, and upon police arrival, Smith fled on foot.

Smith was located a short time later with the assistance of the K-9 team. During the investigation, Smith was found to be in possession of a stolen bicycle belonging ot a second victim.

Smith was arrested and charged with Attempted Burglary second-degree, a class D felony, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.

He was arraigned in the town of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to Dutchess County in lieu of $50,000 cash bail, or $100,000 bond.
