Lost and Injured Hikers Rescued from Mount Beacon

Mount Beacon is one of the most popular hiking trails here in the Hudson Valley. It's also a bit difficult and hiking it at night, isn't encouraged.

Over the weekend the Beacon Volunteer Ambulance Corps shared on Facebook an incident that took place atop Mount Beacon around 8:40 pm on Saturday, September 7th.

An ambulance had been called to Mount Beacon in regard to lost and injured hikers. One of the hikers was suffering shortness of breath. 2  Beacon Volunteer Ambulance Corp EMTs, paramedics and New York State Park Police rode up the mountain on ATVs near the Beacon fire tower.

While on foot the crew located the lost and injured hikers and took them to safety at the bottom of Mount Beacon where they were looked after by a waiting ambulance. Throughout the whole incident, BVAC was in contact with the hikers by cell phone

This post can serve as a reminder to use caution while hiking and that summer is slowly departing the Hudson Valley and the sun is setting earlier than we're used to.
