The highly anticipated Broadway adaptation of The Notebook is making its first stop in Poughkeepsie.

This week Vassar College announced the lineup for this summer's Powerhouse Theater. Now in its 35th season, the yearly festival gives audiences a unique look at projects being developed for the stage and screen. Artists, composers, writers and producers present works in progress to audiences which helps springboard these projects to Broadway and beyond.

n 2013 Lin Manuel Miranda did a reading of what was then called The Hamilton Mixtape. That workshop eventually evolved into the juggernaut Broadway musical that took last year's Tony Awards by storm. That same season Steve Martin and Edie Brickell did a reading for their award-winning Broadway production of Bright Star.

This year, acclaimed artist Ingrid Michaelson will be presenting a reading of her stage adaption of The Notebook to audiences for the first time. The Nicholas Sparks novel was made into a movie in 2004 starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. Michaelson is known for her pop hits but has also been very involved in stage productions since attending SUNY Binghamton, where she majored in theater.

According to Broadway.com, the musical features an entirely original score by Michaelson and a book by Bekah Brunstetter who's known for The Cake. The reading will take place sometime this July. Vassar College will be posting more information, including casting information, at a later date.
