A Hudson Valley Police chief has returned after being honored at the White House.

New Paltz Chief of Police Joseph A. Snyder was invited to The White House on Wednesday July 6th for a briefing with Senior Administration Officials on The President’s Task Force On 21st Century Policing Initiative.

In December 2014, President Obama launched the Task Force on 21st Century Policing to study approaches to strengthen law enforcement and community relations while also public safety. The Task Force developed a series of recommendations, many of which emphasize the opportunity for police departments to use data and technology to increase transparency and accountability, focus on officer safety and wellness, and foster better relationships between law enforcement and the community.

Wednesday’s briefing provided an overview of the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing and allowed officers to discuss strategies for implementation with peers already making progress towards this goal.

There was also a discussion about new ways to improve public trust and confidence in the justice system while promoting public safety.

“It was an honor and privilege to be a part of this very important law enforcement initiative and to continue our efforts to better serve and work with everyone in our community,” Chief Snyder stated. “I am pleased to say that we have already implemented many topics covered in the President’s Task Force on the 21st Century Policing report. I anticipate implementing more after what I have learned at The White House to enhance the great relationship we already have with our community members and organizations.”
