A former coach and educator from the Hudson Valley will spend Sunday at the Super Bowl. That's because he's the Carolina Panther's general manager.

Dave Gettleman became the GM for the Panthers in 2013. But back in 1973 he was working right here in the Hudson Valley as head coach of the Spackenkill High School football team. Gettleman served as coach from 1973–78 and returned for two years in 1980.

During his time as coach, Gettleman saw the Spackenkill team win two league titles and one Section 1 Bowl berth. The coach's experience in Spackenkill kicked off an impressive career in Football, ultimately landing him the top position with the Panthers.

Before moving to Carolina, Gettleman worked with the New York Giants. He started as a team scout in 1998 and was elevated the next year to pro personnel director. In 2012 he became a senior pro personnel analyst before being offered the General Manager position with Carolina. In fact, yesterday Gettleman was spotted wearing his 2011 Giants' Super Bowl Ring. Perhaps hoping to inspire his current team to similar success.
