Police say a Dutchess County man stole power by using an underground electric bypass.

On Thursday, New York State Police from Rhinebeck arrested David E Rundall, 70, of Hyde Park for grand larceny, a class D felony.

With the help of the Central Hudson Gas and Electric Company troopers began an investigation over allegations that Rundall was stealing power.

According to police, it was determined that Rundall stole power via an underground electric bypass designed to significantly understate his utility bills.

Rundall was arraigned before the town of Hyde Park Court and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in Hyde Park Court on June 21.

In a press release, police reminded everyone that thefts of utilities are criminal in nature and are investigated.
