Parking will be free on weekends for the rest of the year in this Dutchess County city.

On Wednesday, City of Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison announced through the end of this year parking at all city-owned surface lots will be free on weekends.

“Parking in the lots is already free on Sunday, so it just makes sense to expand this to include Saturday, and have our weekend parking entirely free”, Rolison said in a press release. “We’re focused on making it more convenient and inviting for visitors who choose to avail themselves of all Poughkeepsie has to offer. From dining and entertainment to arts and leisure, from our waterfront to our city parks, there are many reasons to visit Poughkeepsie, now free weekend parking is one of them."

According to the Mayor's office, public comment on whether free weekend parking should become permanent is welcomed and can be made via email to Mayor@CityofPoughkeepsie.com.

On-street parking in the city of Poughkeepsie remains free on weekends, officials say. All parking regulations, including alternate side parking rules and no-parking zones will continue to be enforced.
