Dad Tip: Keeping Kids Occupied On Road Trips
School is just about over, and families will be hitting the road for annual vacations. But, let's be honest, if you don't keep the kids occupied, you'll be dealing with "are we there yet" for hours.
So, over Memorial Day weekend, my wife and I took the kids to visit family in Pennsylvania. It's only about three to three and a half hours to get there, but it's always a challenge keeping the kids occupied.
This time, I prepared for the short journey. I charged up all their little phones, tablets, and any other electronic device I could find, as well as books, coloring books, etc, figuring that would be enough.
So, we hit the road, and there was one thing I forgot...ALL their little devices run on Wi-Fi! Here I am on the NYS Thruway, and all I hear from the back seat is "I can't play my games", "Daddy, make this thing work!".
Quick thinking, I pull over at the first rest stop I see. Last year I switched to an unlimited data plan with my wireless provider, so I created a mobile hotspot through my Iphone, and BOOM BAM! the devices worked like a charm!.
*Please note, additional charges may apply while doing this, even with a unlimited data.
