6 Hudson Valley BBQ Joints You Never Heard Of Ranked Best in NY
These six, small barbecue joints in the Hudson Valley are probably not on your radar but they should be.
A recent list of the best places to get barbecue in New York includes several local spots that, quite frankly, I never knew even existed. The list, compiled by New York Upstate, took data from Yelp reviews to come up with a definitive ranking of the best places in New York to grab barbecue.
Taking the number 24 spot on the list is the Barnwood Restaurant in Catskill.Barbecue ribs, chicken wings, and pulled pork are all on the menu of this out-of-the-way barbecue haven in Greene County.
Kerhonkson is home to Outpost Barbecue which grabs the 21st spot on the list. On 209 in Ulster County, Outpost is what one customer says is what every barbecue joint should "look and feel like." With friendly service and great barbecue, it's no wonder Outpost Barbecue made the list.
Busting into the top 20 is a Dutchess County restaurant called Railhead Jerk. The number 19 entry is a small place on Route 22 in Amenia. What they lack in space they make up for in five-star ratings, according to Yelp users.
A guy named "Big W" personally invites all of his customers into his small roadside stand in Wingdale, trimming your cuts of meat right in front of your eyes. The barbecue must be something special because Big W's Roadside Barbecue in Wingdale ranks as the fifth best barbecue joint in all of New York.
Just squeaking ahead of Big W on the list is another Dutchess County barbecue spot named Papa's Best Batch. Located at Grieg Farm in Red Hook, this food truck is what customers are calling barbecue "perfection." The view overlooking Grieg Farm is also something that most other restaurants can't offer.
And the final Hudson Valley barbecue spot making the list also happens to be the number one barbecue joint in all of Upstate New York. Big Kev's BBQ in White Lake looks like a log cabin on wheels and is pumping out some of the best barbecue you've ever had. Located on the corner of 17B and Boyce Road in White Lake Big Kev's is open every Wednesday through Sunday from 11am until they're sold out. You can check out their website for more details.
The full list of the 25 best barbecue joints in all of New York State are listed on the New York Upstate website.
