When I was a kid, I never went to the county fair. We went to some great amusement parks, took lots of cool vacations, and even hit some local carnivals, but for some reason we never to the county fair. When I was a teenager and my friends and I started to drive, we went to the Orange County Fair. I grew up in New Windsor in Orange County, so that's where we went. And it was always the same. Same booths, same rides, same food attractions every year.

I was an adult by the time I discovered the Dutchess County Fair. I did my midday show live from the fair for close to a decade. It was great to experience the fair from “the inside.” I loved the early mornings before the fair officially opened. There was always excitement in the air about what the day would bring. Then we would all stand for the national anthem and the magic would begin. I made so many friends through the years. And I have memories of my favorite things. The Dancing Bear hippie tent, the 4H milkshakes, the baby pigs and cows, the glazed nuts, the locally grown tomato salads. And so much great food that is so bad for you. So what? It’s only once a year!. At night it all lights up like a dream with laughing kids and happy adults.

I have spent a lot of fun hours at the fair. This week, WPDH will be there raising money for Alex's Lemonade Stand. Stop by, say hello and get a t-shirt, and make a donation if you can. And most of all, have a great time!

Listen to the Boris & Robyn Show weekday mornings from 6AM to 10AM on 101.5 WPDH. Stream us live through the website, Alexa-enabled device, Google Home or the WPDH mobile app.
