Transformer Fire Knocks Out Power in Poughkeepsie
About 90 percent of the City of Poughkeepsie was without power Tuesday morning due to an underground transformer fire.
The City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department was joined at the fire on Catharine Street between Mill and Main by the Fairview and Arlington fire departments. City of Poughkeepsie police provided traffic control. Central Hudson Gas & Electric has several crews on the scene.
The Dutchess County Courthouse closed at 11AM because of the power outage caused by the fire.
Central Hudson is still working to repair the damage caused by yesterday's fire. Power has been restored to all but a few affected customers.
