The Hudson Valley Hides America's Oldest Original Intersection

There is only one place in America where all four homes on each corner have history from before the Revolutionary War and it's right here in the Hudson Valley. The intersection known as 'Four Corners' in Kingston got its start all the way back in the 1600s according to Governing.com when the first of four homes were constructed. two more were built in 1754 and the final was completed twenty years later.

In 1777 Kingston became the first capital of New York when the state constitution was ratified close by. The British burned the city to the ground in retribution but it was rebuilt and the homes stand as a reminder to this day.

Governing reports three of the four homes are privately owned but the fourth has been a museum since 1914. While there have been doctors offices, schools, and even a butcher shop, it's important to note the homes at this famous intersection played a role in the Underground Railroad as well.
