Rent prices in New York are rising at alarming rates. Here is where residents in the Hudson Valley pay the most for rent.

According to a recent study by RentCafe, rent is costing more and more across the country and rose 3.2 percent over the past year.

NYUP looked into the most current census data, from 2017, to find out the 30 Upstate New York cities that have the highest median monthly rent. The website considers anything above Rockland County as "Upstate New York.

Below are the cities from the Hudson Valley that made the list:

#24 Hudson (Columbia County)
Median rent: $768

#8 Port Jervis (Orange County)
Median rent: $960

#7 Kingston (Ulster County)
Median rent: $1,034

#6 Beacon (Dutchess County)
Median rent: $1,069

#3 Poughkeepsie (Dutchess County)
Median rent: $1,095

#2 Newburgh (Orange County)
Median rent: $1,118

#1 Middletown (Orange County)
Median rent: $1,126
