Starting January 1st it will be illegal to throw away laptops, video game consoles, and flat screen televisions with your normal trash and recyclables.

As we ring in the New Year, the final leg of 2010's electronic's recycling law with go into effect. The law makes it illegal to throw away "e-waste" in the garbage, according to Bizjournals.com. This law will prevent hazardous materials from ending up in drinking water and the soil.

Violators of this law will be fined $100 for each violation.

The law requires electronics manufacturers to provide a system for collection and recycling for the residents of New York. According to the law, the collectors are to collect the "e-waste" for free, unless they are private sector clients with more than 50 workers.

So be careful with what you decide to throw away in your trash.
