Instagram-Worthy Tulip Garden is Hudson Valley’s Best Kept Secret
One of the best-kept secrets in the Hudson Valley features an explosion of color that will make you reach for your phone to share with everyone.
Here in the Hudson Valley, we have some of the most beautiful sights anywhere in New York. Whether it's peeping at the changing leaves in Minnewaska, taking in views of the Hudson River from the Walkway Over the Hudson or roaming the rail trail, there always seems to be something new to discover.
Recently, I was talking a walk through a local park and stumbled across one of the most beautiful gardens. Hidden behind a building, it's completely off the radar to the thousands of who drive right past it every day.
Hidden Garden in Wappingers Falls
The garden is located in Mesier Park in the Village of Wappingers Falls. Across from the Gazebo, next to the Mesier Homestead, is a new walking path and garden that was installed last year.
This month, the garden is in full bloom, with 1,000 tulips and 500 daffodils bursting with color. There are also 20 rhododendrons getting ready to pop and dozens of other flowering perennials that will continue to bring colors to the garden all season long.
The Gardens at Mesier Park were planted thanks to a donation from John DiDomizio, a lifetime member of the Wappingers Historical Society. According to the WHS, DiDomizio's grandfather, Antonio, first arrived in Wappingers Falls in 1897.
An inviting brick path and comfy benches make the Mesier Park garden a great place to relax and enjoy nature.
Additions to Wappingers Falls Garden Planned
According to the Historical Society, there is a plan to add a colonial herb garden and other plantings to the rear of the house. DiDomizio calls Mesier Park "the crown jewel of the village" and hopes that the improvements to the landscaping will attract more visitors to enjoy this Hudson Valley gem.
For those who are looking for an excuse to drop by and visit, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at the Gardens at Mesier Park on Saturday, May 2nd at 11am.
