Police Catch Two Hudson Valley Stores Selling Alcohol to Minors
An undercover operation managed by New York State Police led to the arrest of two Hudson Valley store clerks who sold alcohol to a minor.
This week, State Police conducted an underage drinking enforcement operation. With the help of an 18-year-old volunteer, fifteen Dutchess County stores were tested to see if they would sell alcohol to a minor. The minor was being watched by plainclothes investigators and supported by uniformed troopers.
Two store clerks were arrested after they allowed the 18-year-old to purchase alcohol. Singh Onkar, 51, of Pougheekpsiee and 34-year-old, Stony Point resident, Krishan R. Patel were both charged with the misdemeanor of unlawful dealing with a minor. Onkar allowed the purchase to take place at an Exxon Gas Station in Poughkeepsie. Patel was working at a Mobil Gas Station in LaGrange
Both were issued appearance tickets to appear in local courts at a later date and released. In addition, their employers face possible civil penalties imposed by the State Liquor Authority.
