Plastic Bags Could Soon be Banned Everywhere in the Hudson Valley
From grocery stores to dollar stores, plastic bags may soon disappear from every store in the Hudson Valley.
It's already illegal in New Paltz to use plastic bags, but now the entire Hudson Valley may have to figure out another way to carry their groceries home. According to the NY Post, Governor Cuomo is considering throwing his support behind a statewide ban of plastic shopping bags.
The announcement comes a day after New York City announced a plan to completely ban them. A spokesperson for Governor Cuomo told the Post,
It’s clear that we need to address the real environmental concerns caused by the proliferation of plastic bags, and a ban is one of the options we’re reviewing,
The issue has been brought up several times since New Paltz enacted their plastic bag ban in 2014. Ulster County considered a county wide ban last year, but no legislation has been drafted.
