The Orange County man accused of killing his father and setting fire to his father's home is now facing multiple felony charges following his release from the hospital.

New York State Police say 32-year-old Thomas D. Ryan was medically cleared and released from Westchester Medical Center on August 13. Ryan had been hospitalized following his August 9 apprehension in Schoharie County.

After his release, Ryan was transported to New York State Police in Middletown, where investigators formally charged him with five felonies:

• Second-degree murder, a Class A-I felony
• Third-degree arson, a Class C felony
• Tampering with physical evidence, a Class E felony
• Concealment of a human corpse, a Class E felony
• Fourth-degree grand larceny, a Class E felony

Ryan was then arraigned at the Orange County Centralized Arraignment and remanded to the Orange County Jail, according to State Police.

The charges stem from the August 6 death of Ryan's 70-year-old father, Robert Ryan, at his home on Greenville Turnpike in the Town of Greenville.

State Police were initially called to the residence around 7:30 p.m. for a fire, but then investigators found Robert Ryan's body inside the home. Police determined the fire had been deliberately set and began investigating the death as a homicide.

Days-Long Manhunt Ended in Schoharie County

Thomas Ryan became the focus of a massive, multi-agency search after investigators determined he had fled the Greenville area in his father's gray 2016 Toyota Prius.

The Prius was eventually located abandoned in a parking lot along State Route 990V in Gilboa, Schoharie County, after police received a tip from a member of the public.

Investigators from multiple State Police troops, along with the Schoharie County Sheriff's Office and New York City Department of Environmental Protection Police, searched the area.

Ryan was located and taken into custody by the State Police Special Operations Response Team at approximately 12:10 a.m. on August 9. Police said he had sustained injuries prior to his apprehension and was treated at the scene before being transported to a hospital.

The investigation involved law enforcement agencies from across New York, including the FBI, NYPD, Orange County Sheriff's Office, Middletown and Port Jervis police departments, the New York State Intelligence Center and several specialized State Police units.

State Police have credited tips from members of the public with helping investigators locate Ryan and bring the manhunt to an end.
