New York Thruway Authority Worker Killed in Work Zone Identified
The man tragically killed while working in a work zone on a New York highway has been identified.
Last week we told you about a tragic accident that claimed the life of one man and seriously injured another while they were working in a work zone on Interstate 90 in Henrietta, New York.
The accident happened Thursday while a work crew was setting up a work zone along I-90 when two workers were struck by a tractor-trailer that was driving through the work zone. A day after the accident Frank Hoare, Thruway Authority Executive Director confirmed the tragic news on social media saying that one worker was killed and the other was in serious condition.
Thruway Worker Killed Identified
Over the weekend the NYS Thruway Authority released the name of the man who was tragically killed in the accident saying,
"Today, the Thruway family operates with heavy hearts as we remember our brother Vincent 'Vinny' Giammarva (Construction Equipment Operator Heavy), who was hit and killed Thursday in a work zone crash."
Vincent 'Vinny' Giammarva Remembered
Giammarva worked in the Thruway's Henrietta Maintenance Section for nearly 20 years and is fondly remembered as a dedicated public servant, with unwavering dedication that embodied the very essence of the NYS Thruway Authority according to a post on Facebook,
"Vinny’s unwavering dedication embodied the very essence of this organization, which is now left with an unimaginable void and a long grieving process ahead."
What Happened?
All we know today is Giammarva and Mark Vara, a Thruway Maintenance Worker, were picking up a work zone when they were hit by a tractor-trailer on I-90 near Henrietta. Vara (above) sustained serious injuries and is currently still in the hospital. The accident is still under investigation.

The Thruway Authority ended its post by saying,
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Vinny's family and friends during this tremendously difficult time, and we also stand with and support Mark’s family during his recovery."
