Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Monday he has awarded a $450,000 grant to a Beacon startup brewery.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports, Hudson Valley Brewery, Inc., will use the grant money to help with renovations to a factory building which will produce a 5,000 square foot tasting room, a 30-barrel brewing setup as well as a full canning and packaging line.

The Beacon brewery start-up’s grant was part of nearly $40 million that was given to 34 local projects across New York State for economic development. $39.2 million in economic funding was approved by the Empire State Development’s Board of Directors.

According to Cuomo’s office, the funding, “supports projects that are creating 233 new jobs and retaining 1,589 existing New York State jobs – many of which have already been created or retained. This funding will also leverage $338.6 million in private assets and other public funding to support local businesses and projects that are building a strong foundation for future economic growth and job creation."

Construction for the Hudson Valley Brewery is underway at an abandoned factory located at 7 E. Main Street in Beacon.
