Hudson Valley Police Officer in Legal Fight of His Life
A City of Peekskill police officer who was cleared by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office after a use-of-force incident is now fighting for his career after being suspended without pay.
Peekskill Police Officer Fighting For His Job
His name is Daniel Regg. He has served as a police officer with the City of Peekskill Police Department (PPD) in Westchester County for just under three years and is now in a legal battle with his department and the city he was hired to protect.
According to Regg, the incident happened on December 3rd, 2025, when he responded to a public park in Peekskill for a report of a man behaving erratically. Regg said he encountered a man who was naked from the waist down and appeared to be under the influence of PCP. When he attempted to take the man into custody, Regg said the suspect violently resisted arrest and allegedly threatened to kill him. Several officers were eventually required to assist in subduing the man.
Following the incident, the Peekskill Police Department and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office launched an investigation. During that time, Regg was on paid suspension until February 21st. After that he was suspended without pay.
Cleared of Any Wrongdoing
After reviewing the case, the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office cleared Regg of any wrongdoing and determined that his actions were justified. However, despite being cleared, Regg has not been reinstated and remains suspended without pay as the City of Peekskill allegedly attempts to terminate his employment.

The situation has turned into a costly legal battle, prompting Regg to launch a GoFundMe campaign to help cover legal fees.
"This is going to be an expensive legal battle that I know is achievable," said Regg. "I am not just fighting for me, I am fighting for the future of Police Officers in New York State for treatment such as this."
Fundraiser to Help Cover Legal Costs
Regg previously spent six years with the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department and says he has no disciplinary history. During his career, he says he has also received three life-saving awards.
“I’m doing everything I can to fight this unfair treatment,” Regg said. “I’ve never once been in any sort of trouble during my almost nine years as a police officer — six years with the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department and just under three years with Peekskill.
Regg is inviting anyone interested in supporting his fight to donate online here.
