Correction: The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch, not a warning, as previously reported.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for the Hudson Valley region.

On Tuesday, August 14, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flash flood watch for most of the lower and central regions of New York State. The watch is locally issued for the mid-Hudson Valley region, Eastern Catskills, and the Taconics. Typically, the mid-Hudson Region includes Dutchess, Ulster, Orange, Putnam, and Rockland Counties.

This watch is effective until 12:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15. The NWS predicts that scattered thunderstorms will move across the mentioned regions, with rainfall accumulating anywhere from 1 to 3 inches. Expect heavy rainfall in a short amount of time. Heavy rain near creeks and streams, urban areas with poor drainage and other low lying areas are at greater risk for flash floods.

The watch is also for the Lake George and Saratoga Region,  Mohawk Valley, Sacandaga Region, Schoharie Valley, and the Greater Capital District.

The National Weather Service advises that you monitor the weather and stay prepared.
