Sunday afternoon two separate wildfires were reported in Harriman Sate Park in Rockland and Orange Counties.

According to officials, the first of the fires was reported late Sunday afternoon in the Pine Meadow area of the park in the Town of Ramapo in Rockland County.

State emergency personal and local fire departments were immediately dispatched to the blaze. The governor's office confirmed in a press release that the blaze was contained and that approximately 100 acres burned.

As of yesterday the second fire reported later that evening at nearly midnight was still reported as burning. That fire was discovered in a remote area of the park in the Town of Tuxedo known as Tom Jones Mountain in Orange County.

Officials confirmed that approximately 440 acres had burned as of yesterday afternoon with the fire nearly 90 precent contained. Emergency crews were continuing to work on the containment, trying to ensure not residents were not in the direct path of the fire.

"State emergency personnel have been working around the clock to contain this wildfire and protect the safety of New Yorkers living in near-by communities,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a statement. "We urge those in the affected areas to be aware of the current dangers, stay informed of developments and to remain alert."

Helping contain and manage the blaze were more than 40 state personnel from the D.E.C, Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Office of Fire Prevention and Control, and Office of Emergency Management. State workers were also along aided by Rockland and Orange County fire departments.
