Gird your loins, folks: Miranda Priestly is headed to Broadway as The Devil Wears Prada is becoming a musical. The 2006 film based on the 2003 novel about one girl’s nightmare experience working for a somewhat difficult woman at the head of a fashion magazine is getting the musical treatment — and from none other than Elton John.

Deadline reports that Elton John will be composing the music and Paul Rudnick(I Hate Hamlet, Addams Family Values) will be writing the book and song lyrics. This isn’t the first time a movie or a TV show has been turned into a Broadway musical, and it certainly won’t be the last, as the successes of Legally Blonde and The Producers and The Addams Family indicate that audiences love seeing their favorite movie characters burst into song.

Elton John seems really excited about it:

Re-imagining The Devil Wears Prada for the musical theatre is super exciting. I’m a huge fan of both the book and the feature film and a huge aficionado of the fashion world. I can’t wait to sink my musical teeth into this hunk of popular culture.

As for song titles, you know they’re going to have to do something with Miranda’s catchphrase “That’s All.” Maybe a big opening number going through all the wonderful things you can find at the Runway magazine offices. A whole dance routine set to Priestly’s monologue about protagonist Andy’s blue — sorry, cerulean — sweater.

The production schedule is TBA for now, but expect to see lots of red-heeled shoe signs popping up around Times Square in the next few years.
