Legendary bassist for the rock group Cream, Jack Bruce, has died today of liver disease. He was 71. His website has confirmed the news.

His family said in a statement: "It is with great sadness that we, Jack's family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad, and all round legend. The world of music will be a poorer place without him but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts."

Bruce was best known as the bassist for legendary rock group Cream. As one-third of the trio, along with guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker, Bruce was the voice and songwriter behind classic hits like "White Room,"  and "Sunshine of Your Love," which Bruce co-wrote with Clapton. Our condolences go out to the Bruce family and friends.
