A bald eagle was shot in Sullivan County and suffered a broken wing. On April, 11, 2018, Environmental Conservation Officer Tom Koepf received a call from a citizen in Cochecton, N.Y. reporting an injured bald eagle near his home along the Delaware River.

The officer arrived and found the eagle next to a set of railroad tracks. The bird was suffering from a severely broken right wing.

The officer captured the bird and transported it to licensed wildlife rehabilitator Missy Runyan, who took the 2-year-old female to a veterinarian.

It soon became apparent that the bird had been shot, as dozens of lead fragments were discovered around the broken bones in its wing.

The eagle is currently in Runyan's care and is expected to survive.

Environmental Conservation Officers are investigating the shooting, which is a federal offense.

Anyone with information that may help identify those involved with the shooting is encouraged to contact the Region 3 Law Enforcement office at (845) 256-3013.
