A new series of short films created by Ashton Kutcher's media company focuses in on a Poughkeepsie firefighter.

The documentary series is called "The New Americans" and tells the stories of people who have immigrated to the United States and are working to make our country a better place.

An episode titled "La Fantasma (The Firewoman of Poughkeepsie)" tells the story of Ingrid Sanchez-Eger. Ingrid is the president of the Dutchess County Volunteer Firefighters Association. Originally from Costa Rica, Ingrid is a single mother who works two jobs. If that's not enough, she also volunteers as chief responder with the Poughkeepsie fire department.

Ingrid is called "La Fantasma" which translates to "ghost." She earned the nickname because people just can't believe that the single mom can be in so many different places at once. Ingrid's own house burned down last year but she continues to work and volunteer saying "I’ve seen worse, and I’ll come out of this too.”

"The New Americans" airs during June, which is Immigrant Heritage Month. New installments of the eight episode series will be released every Monday, ending in July. You can keep up with each program as they're released on the A Plus Youtube Channel.
