Even though the Yankees swept their arch rivals, the Red Sox, Thursday, their victory proved to be bittersweet.

In spite of their valiant efforts, Baltimore's victory in Toronto has guaranteed that the Bronx Bombers will miss the American League playoffs for the third time in four years.

Many didn't think the Yankees would even be in contention for the playoffs this year. Multiple personal moves and trades, injuries, plus the sudden retirement of Alex Rodriguez all effected the team in 2016.

But the Yankees have nothing to be ashamed about. A new wave of young stars emerged in the second half of the season to make them contenders in the American League, and have helped set the foundation for years ahead.

Catcher Gary Sanches is getting AL Rookie of the Year consideration even though he played in only 51 games.

Hopefully, this new crop will continue to develop and make the Yankees contenders again.

The Yankees wrap up the season with a series against the team that knocked them out of the Al playoffs to begin with, the Baltimore Orioles.
