Before the season began, Yankees' first baseman Mark Teixeira said he'd like to play baseball fro five more years.

Now, injuries have caught up with the 36 year-old. It came as little surprise when Teixeira announced at a press conference Friday that he'll retire from baseball at the end of the 2016 season.

I was far from perfect, but I gave you everything I had. It wasn't always enough, but I tried my best.

Teixeira has battled many injuries that have cost him a lot of games over the past five years, including neck spasms, wrist inflammation, and torn cartilage in his right knee just to name a few.

He's hitting just .197 with 10 homers, 27 RBIs in 77 games so far this season.

It's been quite a ride for "Tex" during his fourteen year Major League career.

Teixeria signed an eight year, $180 million dollar deal with the Yankees in 2009. That would be his best year by far, as he helped lead the Yankees to a 2009 Wold Series win, as well as finishing second for the American League MVP.

He is a three time All-Star, a five time Gold Glove winner, and one of only five switch-hitters to hit 400 career home runs.
